The study found that Walmart.com sales rose by 11.98% compared with this time last year, while Amazon dropped by 4.61%. But Amazon had around $50 billion in sales compared with this time last year, while Walmart.com had less than $20 billion.

The takeaway? Amazon is still the go-to for online shopping … for now. But thanks to Walmart's generally better prices and higher popularity for groceries, Walmart.com is on Amazon's tails. This holiday shopping season is likely to get ultra-competitive between the two retailers, so keep your eye on both sites to get the best prices.
