Amazon Studios Releases New Trailer for 'Coming 2 America' (& It's Just as Funny as You'd Expect)

According to Paramount's official synopsis, the film is set 30 years after the events of the first movie. As Prince Akeem (Murphy) prepares to inherit the throne in Zamunda, he discovers that he has an American son named Lavelle (Jermaine Fowler). At the request of his sick father, Akeem returns to Queens to find his son and groom him as the crown prince.

Fans can expect to see a number of familiar faces from the first film, including King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones), Lisa Joffer (Shari Headley), Cleo McDowell (John Amos), Imani Izzi (Vanessa Bell Calloway), Rose (Garcelle Beauvais) and Oha (Paul Bates). New cast members include Jermaine Fowler, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Wesley Snipes and Teyana Taylor.

In addition to playing Akeem, Murphy will also be reprising his roles as Randy Watson, Mr. Clarence and Saul. Meanwhile, Hall will reprise his roles as Reverend Brown and Morris.

The highly-anticipated sequel was directed by Craig Brewer and produced by Murphy and Kevin Misher. Also, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris, Barry W. Blaustein and David Sheffield worked on the script.

While speaking with IndieWire, Murphy explained why the new comedy film will be a hit for countless fans. He said, "Most of [Coming 2 America] takes place in Africa and it’s Zamunda…I think the reason why [Coming to America] resonated and really worked with black folks is that it was our black fairy tale. This new movie is a fairy tale as well. It’s this fairy tale world where they have a very modern problem."

Coming 2 America will make its debut on Amazon Prime on March 5 (and yes, we're already counting down the days).
