The 80th annual Venice International Film Festival is about to officially kick off, and Amal and George Clooney are already topping best dressed lists (and not just because the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike means fewer stars are walking the red carpet).

Today, the A-list couple arrived in Venice, Italy, where they coordinated in elegant looks while casually heading to Hotel Cipriani via boat.

Amal made a grand entrance, displaying her signature sophisticated style, which often includes motifs and silhouettes reminiscent of the ’60s mod era. In this case, the human-rights lawyer wore a white shift minidress framed by a black floral print. She added a pair of mesh slingback pumps by Roger Vivier, a plump black leather shoulder bag, and large black sunglasses.

Meanwhile, George (who recently made a donation of at least $1 million to SAG-AFTRA’s emergency financial assistance program) looked suave in his laid-back Italian holiday ensemble, which consisted of a navy blue collared shirt, pinstriped trousers, suede loafers in a sandy hue, and reflective shades.

The Clooneys’ attendance at this year’s festival may come as a surprise to anyone following

the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union’s strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, as the terms of the strike prohibit actors from promoting their film projects in any capacity.

Despite this, the union gave the green light for some stars—whose attached indie films obtained a SAG-AFTRA interim waiver and were not produced by the AMPTP—to attend the festival, Variety reported. Among the celebrities expected to walk this year’s red carpet in Venice are Adam Driver (for Michael Mann’s film Ferrari) and Jessica Chastain (for Michel Franco’s Memory).
