It's Always Sunny star Charlie Day lands next lead movie role

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day has landed his next movie role in Kill Me.

The actor, who recently appeared in the Super Mario Bros Movie, will take on the role of a man named Jimmy in the new dark comedy.

According to Deadline, the plot will follow the aftermath of an apparent suicide attempt when Jimmy wakes up in a bath, though the character is convinced he didn’t try to commit suicide.

He teams up with Margot, the 911 operator who took his call, as they try to solve whether someone did try to kill him, or whether they are chasing the spectre of depression.

Kill Me comes from writer and director Peter Warren, who has worked on TV series The Auteur.

“When we first read Peter Warren’s script, we were impressed with his honest portrayal of depression and mental health, while still delivering a great mystery with plenty of humor," said producer Mike Richardson.

Studio XYZ Films added: “We knew the moment we read this wonderful and hilarious script from Peter Warren that it has the potential to find a wide reaching audience.

"Charlie Day was born to play the role of Jimmy, and we can’t wait to bring this film to life next year with our friends over at Dark Horse Entertainment."

Day also recently appeared in, directed and wrote Fool's Paradise, which stars Ray Liotta, Underworld's Kate Beckinsale, Succession's Adrien Brody, Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis and The Sopranos' Edie Falco.
