ALT presents 96th season grand finale with 'Spamalot'

The Amarillo Little Theatre brings its 96th season to a close with a search for the Holy Grail, presenting Monty Python's "Spamalot" May 2-19 on the ALT mainstage.

"Spamalot," based on the book and lyrics by Eric Idle with music by John Du Prez and strongly inspired by the film classic "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," is a deliriously funny spectacle which tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table as they go on a quest in search of the Holy Grail.

This musical has everything that makes a great “knight” at the theatre, from flying cows to killer rabbits, British royalty to French taunters, dancing girls, rubbery shrubbery and of course, the Lady of the Lake. "Spamalot" features well-known song titles such as “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” “The Song That Goes Like This,” “Find Your Grail,” and more that have become beloved classics in the musical theatre canon.

"This show is completely full of absolutely idiotic hilarity, and I think what makes it so exciting is we get to get on stage and just be unapologetically goofy and that makes it so fun. It's absolute joke telling from start to finish; as we dance our shoes off and sing our hearts out, we are having so much fun that there is no way that laughter will not transfer to the audience," said Kristen Loyd, portraying The Lady of the Lake.

"I have been a 'Monty Python and the Holly Grail' fan for 35 years, and my good friend from high school, when we watched it, we would perform scenes from it all the time. This is the biggest role in my acting career. ... I am honored and just in awe that I not only get to portray my dream role, but I also get to perform it with a fellow cast and crew. For the Python fans out there, come out enjoy the show; it's one you won't want to miss. And even for those who know nothing about Monty Python, it still isn't one you will want to miss," said Scherman, portraying King Arthur.
