A new baby is something to celebrate — even in the animal world. That’s probably why a baby Llama made such a splash when presented to his Alpaca elders at the Natterjack Alpaca Farm recently. They were obsessed! Although when you see how cute the little guy is, we think you’ll be obsessed too.

The infant Llama really is something. And by the way he proudly stood in the crowd of Alpacas, we think he knows it too.

The video showing the introduction is short but sweet. It shows the adult Alpacas crowded around the baby Llama. They were each taking turns giving the little guy a good sniff. Even after the baby tried to move away from the group, they followed close by and kept smelling him. Guess that new baby smell resonates with animals too, huh?

“Our first Llama baby!” the farm proudly wrote in the caption. “This boy is called Hero, and the Alpacas are OBSESSED.” They sure were!

Commenters had been bitten by the baby Llama bug too. “Awww u can hear them all making baby noises to him and giving him kisses,” wrote one person. “He is standing so majestically,” someone else wrote. “Omg they are all so curious about the lil baby,” exclaimed one commenter. “He's like, ‘Okay... that's enough of the sniffing guys.’” one person teased.

All About Llamas

Most of us have probably never seen a Llama before, but they sure are cute. Today these animals tend to come from the mountain ranges of Peru and sometimes even Bolivia. These animals first came to the United States back in the 1800s and were marketed as “oddities” in zoos. But there’s nothing odd about them! Today, there are hundreds of thousands of Llamas in the United States and millions in their native Peru.

Perhaps the reason why they’ve won so many people over is that they have sweet, affable personalities. Well that and all that fluffy fur! These guys are social with both humans and among their own kind, as long as they are raised properly. A Llama that isn’t socialized when they’re young can have behavioral issues when they get older. Hence why some people might be under the impression that Llamas can be aggressive. These animals are usually very peaceful companions however, and make some pretty adorable sounds to let you know how they’re feeling too.

A typical Llama diet includes good quality grass hay, fresh water, and a salt mineral mixture. These guys can graze all day long and have complex stomachs that allow them to digest all that food.

These are just a few facts about one of our favorite animals. Oh! And they look pretty cute when they’re babies too.
