Power returning to Daufuskie residents, major county outages resolved

Hundreds of residents on Daufuskie Island had power restored early Friday afternoon.

According to the Dominion Energy power outage map, 171 customers on Daufuskie are without power as of 2 p.m., down from 484 Friday morning.

Around 300 Beaufort County residents remain without power, according to Dominion’s data, an improvement from about 1,700 at Noon.

Outage on Fripp, Hunting Islands resolved, power loss reported in Attaway

12 p.m. Friday

Power has been restored to the 1,900 residents affected by early outages on Fripp and Hunting Islands, but a new power outage affecting around 800 Attaway customers was reported.

Dominion Energy Spokesperson Paul Fischer said around 1,700 residents in Beaufort County are now without electricity, down from nearly 3,000 Friday morning.

The situation is still fluctuating, Fischer said, but Hilton Head Island and surrounding areas have been spared the worst of Hurricane Ian’s impact. Most of the outages in Dominion’s service area are concentrated near Charleston, where Hurricane Ian is expected to hit more directly. Nearly 20,000 residents in Charleston are experiencing power failures, according to the outage map.

Daufuskie outages to continue until waters are safe

11 a.m. Friday

In an email from Beaufort County, Dominion Energy announced the power outages affecting around 484 residents on Daufuskie Island will continue until the company can safely run boats across the water.

Conditions for ferry service to Daufuskie Island are being evaluated hourly, according to the county.

On the mainland, crews are assessing damage and restoring power where they are able. Downed trees and tree limbs have been the primary cause for power outages, according to the email.

Beaufort County power outages reported

8 a.m. Friday

Almost 3,000 Beaufort County residents were without power at mid-morning as Hurricane Ian continues to scrape past the Lowcountry.

Across Beaufort county, about 2,800 people are without power, Dominion Energy spokesperson Paul Fischer said.

Many of the local outages are centered on Daufuskie Island, according to Dominion Energy’s live outage map. Residents say the power was on and off throughout Thursday night and into Friday morning. Daufuskie had 483 customers without power as of 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Another 1,900 people are experiencing outages between Fripp Island and Hunting Island, according to the utility’s outage map.

Local electric cooperatives are being helped by 143 out-of-state workers. Electrical Cooperatives of South Carolina spokesman Van O’Cain said crews from Kentucky, Tennessee and Louisiana have arrived to assist with outages anticipated due to the storm.
