Skarsgård, who ripped up the big screen as Viking warrior Amleth in The Northman last year, is executive producing as well as starring in the show, while Paul and Chris Weitz (About A Boy) are on co-writing and directing duties.

Paul's most recent work was Kevin Hart's Fatherhood, while Chris penned this autumn's Gareth Edwards epic The Creator.

Meanwhile, Swedish actor Skarsgård spoke to SFX Magazine about the nude scenes throughout his wild movie Infinity Pool back in June.

"I find it quite cathartic," he admitted. "It's really fun. Sometimes, but not too often, I run around naked with a leather collar and a leash on, so it's just a great opportunity to do a bit more of that! And also to explore some darker sides of my personality. It was a very pleasant experience."

As for what appealed to him about the horror genre, he explained: "I feel like a lot of projects and a lot of scripts I get sent are basically written by focus groups. It's all about blunting the sharp edges, staying very middle of the road, playing it very safe.

"Movies have to be palatable for everyone. So projects that are a bit more anarchistic excite me because they have a bit more of a unique tone."
