How to Air Fry a Hot Dog In Only 5 MinutesWill Dickey

When firing up the grill isn't in the cards, but you don't want to surrender to a lack luster boiled hot dog, the air fryer is here to save the day. Cooking a hot dog in an air fryer is pure genius—the hot air circulates around the frank, like a powerful convection oven or closed grill, leading to a hot dog that's juicy on the inside and perfectly charred on the outside. Of all the hot dog recipes out there, this is one of the quickest and easiest you'll find. It's begging for all the hot dog toppings!

How long does it take to cook hot dogs in the air fryer?

You can air fry a hot dog faster than you can boil a pot of water! Cooking hot dogs in the air fryer takes a mere 5 to 6 minutes. You'll be left with perfectly crisp, juicy hot dogs that rival ones hot off the grill.

Do you need to flip hot dogs in the air fryer?

Because the air fryer circulates hot air all around the food, flipping isn’t crucial, but it can produce a better hot dog. Flipping allows all sides of the hot dog to get close to the heat, resulting in franks that cook more evenly and have a nice crisp skin. Even if you don't flip your hot dogs, they'll still taste delicious.

What do you serve air fryer hot dogs with?

Any condiment, topping, or pickle you would normally adorn a hot dog with is fair game. Whether it’s a standard squirt of yellow mustard and spoonful of relish, or delicious chili and cheese, you can't go wrong.

Yields: 8 servings

Prep Time: 5 mins

Total Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 8

    hot dogs

  • 8

    hot dog buns

  • Mustard, relish, and ketchup, for serving

Directions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F, if required.

  2. Using a small, sharp knife, cut 3 or 4 shallow slits into each hot dog. For a spiralized hot dog, insert a long wooden skewer through the length of the hot dog. Hold a small, sharp knife at an angle into the hot dog, rotating the skewer until the knife runs down the full length of the hot dog. Remove the skewer.

  3. Working in 2 batches (4 hot dogs a time), air fry the hot dogs, turning them halfway through, until crisp and heated through, 5 to 6 minutes. Use a paper towel to wipe grease off the base of the air fryer basket.

  4. Place the hot dogs in the buns. Working in 2 batches, air fry the hot dogs and buns until the buns are toasted, 1 to 2 minutes.

  5. Serve hot with mustard, relish, ketchup, or any toppings you like!

Tip: This air fryer method works on any hot dogs—from standard ballpark franks, to turkey dogs, to plant-based hot dogs!
