Ahsoka: The Latest Word on a Possible Season 2, as Dave Filoni Gets Lucasfilm Promotion

The Force is especially strong with longtime Star Wars creative Dave Filoni, who has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm. What does that mean for a second season of Ahsoka, the live-action, Rosario Dawson-led Star Wars Rebels follow-up that he created?

Filoni says in a new Vanity Fair profile that as he now works more directly with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and development chief Carrie Beck to plan out the next wave of Star Wars TV shows and movies, “I’m involved at the inception phase” of such projects.

And rather then “telling people what to do,” Filoni sees himself as offering fellow creators “help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.”

Regarding his own creations, Filoni will continue developing his theatrical release, announced in April, about the escalating war between the Imperial Remnant and the fledgling New Republic, and which will serve as a “culmination” of The Mandalorian and its contemporaries (The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka included).

Speaking of the latter, he will also continue “exploring a possible second season of Ahsoka” (as Vanity Fair put it).

After all, Season 1 last month ended with Ahsoka and her padawan Sabine stranded on the planet Peridea, after a rescued Grand Admiral Thrawn & Co. (including stowaway Ezra Bridger!) used the Eye of Sion hyperspace portal to return to their native galaxy.

TVLine readers gave Season 1 an average grade of “A-.”

“I mean, they’ve not said anything officially [about Season 2],” Ahsoka lead Dawson told Vanity Fair, “but I remember when we were at Star Wars Celebration in London [in April] and they were like, ‘We’re giving Dave a movie!’ I was like, ‘I kind of feel like that means we’re probably going to get a second season.’”

When the writer and actor strikes were going on, no one was at liberty to discuss such matters, Dawson noted, “But [Dave] did say he was working on an outline. So, we’ll see.”
