Affidavit: former Eastwood High School teacher, student ditched school to have sex at park

A former Eastwood High School math teacher allegedly removed his children's car seat to have sex with a student in his car during an alleged illicit relationship, court documents state.

Ryan Anthony Avalos, 33, was arrested Friday, March 1, on suspicion of improper relationship between an educator and student, El Paso Police Department officials said. The victim was an 18-year-old student.

Avalos was a math teacher at Eastwood High School, Ysleta Independent School District officials said. A complaint affidavit states Avalos was also a football coach at the school.

He "is no longer a district employee effective Jan. 30, 2024," officials said. No further information was released by district officials.

Avalos was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $100,000 bond. He was released from jail Friday, March 1, after posting bail, jail logs show.

No attorney is listed in court record for Avalos.

Avalos, victim allegedly ditched school to have sex

An investigation into Avalos began in January after an El Paso Police Department school resource officer received a call from a school reporting a student was having a relationship with Avalos, officials said.

An El Paso Police Department Crimes Against Child unit detective met with the victim to discuss the allegations against Avalos.

The student said she and Avalos would send emails to each other from their Ysleta Independent School District email accounts. In November, Avalos asked the victim if they could move their conversation outside of the district emails, a complaint affidavit states. The two then began talking through the TikTok social media application.

Avalos and the student planned to ditch half a day from school. Avalos said in a Nov. 12 message, "... yes we are going to ditch half the day Friday to kick it. And yes, we're going to have fun on Friday so we are dipping out of school together lol," the affidavit states.

He picked up the student around 12:15 p.m. Nov. 17 on Fenway Drive near Eastwood High School.

They drove to Cielo Vista Park at 9030 Cosmos where they listened to music inside Avalos' truck and and smoked a THC vape, the affidavit states. The student claimed Avalos told her she was pretty and proceed to take off her glasses, lean in and kissed her.

Avalos drove the student to The Fountains at Farah, where they started making out, the affidavit states. Avalos allegedly asked the students to have sex with him, but she declined telling him it was almost time for him to drop her off, the affidavit states.

He asked for her to show him her "boobs" and began groping her, the affidavit states.

The student later sent Avalos a message stating, "I really enjoyed today it was fun." Avalos replied "...so did I (victim). I really enjoyed it. I didn't want it to end," the affidavit states. The message included a smiley face emoji.

Avalos allegedly sent the student more messages about their time together claiming he could not get her off his mind and that he missed her.

On Dec. 1, Avalos missed worked and picked up the student about 8 a.m. on Fenway Drive. They drove to Cielo Vista Park, where they started making out, the affidavit states.

Avalos climbed to the back seat of his black Toyota Tacoma and removed his children's car seats. He told the student to jump in the back, the affidavit states. They allegedly had sex multiple times in the back of the truck.

The student told Avalos she was scared of getting pregnant to which Avalos replied he had a vasectomy, the affidavit states.

They then went to the The Fountains at Farah and parked in an underground garage, where they had sex one more time, the affidavit states. They then went to Cielo Vista Park, where they hung out inside Avalos' truck until he dropped her off near school.

The student told police she and Avalos missed half a day from school on Dec. 13. Avalos picked her again at 12:15 p.m. on Fenway Drive. They drove to Cielo Vista Park and "immediately jumped into the back seat" of Avalos' truck and had sex twice, the affidavit states.

They drove to The Fountains at Farah during which Avalos allegedly asked the student to perform sexual acts as he drove, the affidavit states. They parked in the underground garage and allegedly had sex two more times.

Avalos allegedly admitted to district officials to having a sexual relationship with the student, the affidavit states.

He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted on the charge of improper relationship between an educator and student, according to the Texas Penal Code. The case remains pending in state district court.
