AEW wrestler Jeff Hardy charged with drunk driving in Florida

Jeff Hardy, the former WWE champion who joined All Elite Wrestling earlier this year, was arrested Monday on his third DUI.

Hardy, 44, was busted early Monday morning in Volusia County while “swerving all over the roadway, failing to maintain (his) lane, and running off the roadway in the area,” according to an arrest report obtained by the Daytona News Journal.

When the wrestler finally pulled over, he allegedly “appeared to be in a stupor and confused” when the arresting officer ordered him to remove his hands from a black bag in the car.

Hardy then got out of the car, “unsteady on his feet, displayed orbital sway, reeked of the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and was confused,” according to the police report.

On two different breathalyzer tests, Hardy allegedly blew a 0.294 and a 0.291, more than 3.5 times the legal limit in Florida.

Hardy was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and violating a restriction which required him to have a DUI interlock device in his vehicle.

He was previously arrested for drunk driving in March 2018 and October 2019, both times in North Carolina.

In a statement Tuesday, AEW president Tony Khan said Hardy has been suspended without pay and can only return to the promotion after “successfully completing treatment and maintaining his sobriety.” The company offered to help find the wrestler treatment for substance abuse issues, Khan said, which Hardy “has indicated that he’s open to receiving.”

Hardy dominated at WWE separately and as a tag team with his brother, Matt, before both switched to AEW, where they have since reunited and reformed The Hardy Boyz.
