AEW has announced that former World Champion Kenny Omega will return to Dynamite next week (May 2).

Omega hasn't been seen on AEW television since December 13, after being diagnosed with diverticulitis.

On Dynamite, AEW announced that Omega would appear in person on next week's show which hails from his hometown of Winnipeg, Canada.

Responding to the news on X, Omega wrote: "It's been a long time."

It is most likely that Omega will appear to speak to fans and give and update on his condition rather than announce his return to the ring.

In December, Omega shared a photo from his hospital bed and told fans: "I can't really sugar coat this. I'm out indefinitely. I tried to keep pushing past the pain for as long as I could until it became too much. Luckily doctors caught me when they did."

Since then Omega has been keeping fans updated on his recovery via Twitch, and earlier this month he shared that he would have to have surgery before returning to the ring.

"Aside from feeling sensitive to the touch, for a quick second I thought: 'Oh my goodness, is it possible I'm able to go back without surgery?' Nah," Omega said on Twitch.

"The first time I take someone's double foot stomp, even if it's Marko Stunt or Riho, something is probably going to blow. As good as I feel right now in my day to day and training, once impact starts to get involved or you have to use your core to do heavy lifts, that's when things start to get dangerous. I'm going to have to make sure it's all taken care of."
