Aerin Lauder’s Latest for Williams Sonoma Has Us SOOOO Ready for Rosé Season

Growing up, Aerin Lauder remembers the fragrance bottles and lab samples her grandmother, the legendary American businesswoman Estée Lauder, would keep lined up on her desk. Her mother, on the other hand, opted to surround herself “forever with baskets and flowers,” Lauder remembers.

“My mother has always collected baskets,” Lauder—who is herself now the CEO of her own lifestyle brand, AERIN—continued on a recent afternoon in the lush garden surrounding her Palm Beach home. “Just tons of wonderful American and English baskets.”

Both women, along with sun-washed days spent in the Hamptons and Palm Beach, inspired AERIN’s newly expanded homeware and furniture collection with Williams Sonoma and Williams Sonoma home. The new drop—following a successful seven-year partnership with the California-based homeware brand—features summertime entertaining essentials including new tableware, accessories, and furnishings.

There’s a quartet of delicate blown drinking glasses, studded with hand-painted polka dots the color of green and white beach glass. There are pretty scalloped chargers and plates painted in a blue and white pattern inspired by both vintage dishes and blooms in Lauder’s garden. Then there’s the woven East Hampton outdoor furniture that pays homage to her mother’s baskets. “The magic of it is that you can keep it outside—it’s weatherproof,” Lauder tells us.

Blue, white, and green are the dominant colors throughout the expanded collection—a palette that’s summery while remaining blessedly versatile for mixing and matching. But it’s another subtle nod to Estée: “There’s a wonderful story when my grandmother was starting her company. She couldn’t figure out if she was going to do blue or green packaging.” The solution? See what color looked best, in-situ, in the ladies’ powder room. (Blue won out.)

The overall goal, per Lauder, is to make entertaining as fuss-free as it is elegant. “All the different layers—the floral plates can be great for during the day and the scalloped plates at night,” Lauder says. “That’s what we try to do with all the collections that people can kind of mix and match depending on their needs.”

But you don’t need a Hamptons cottage or a Palm Beach escape to throw a chic affair. “To tell you the truth, I think entertaining in the kitchen, or casually outside, is the nicest way to entertain,” she adds.
