According to a news release, Dixon is moving into the role Teresa Herbert held for more than five years. Herbert moved to a new role with AdventHealth as the chief medical officer for two hospitals in Florida at the end of 2023. In their shared time at AdventHealth Hendersonville, Dixon and Herbert collaborated in their roles, leading the hospital staff through the early months of the coronavirus pandemic.

This move is a return to AdventHealth Hendersonville for Dixon, the release said. He served as the medical director of the Emergency Department from 2018-21. Most recently, he served as the vice president of clinical affairs for Novant Health's greater Charlotte market, supporting multiple hospitals. He has also held several key leadership and faculty positions at organizations, including Wake Forest and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Dixon is board-certified in emergency medicine and Healthcare Quality Management. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from East Tennessee State University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten, Netherland Antilles.

He trained in Internal Medicine at East Tennessee State and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at West Virginia University. He received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee Haslam College of Business and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

“AdventHealth has an incredible organization with a team who is very passionate about serving and providing world class, whole-person care to their patients,” Dixon said in the release. “They are consistently prioritizing their patients and community when making decisions, which really resonates with me and aligns with my leadership style. This is certainly an exciting opportunity to work with some truly amazing health care professionals.”

Dixon, who will begin his new role on March 4, is married with two children and said outside of work, he enjoys fly fishing, spending "device-free" time with his family, attending church and playing chess.

“As he transitions back to our team as our chief medical officer, Dr. Dixon will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic direction, enhancing the quality of our medical services, and fostering a culture of excellence throughout the organization,” said Brandon Nudd, president and CEO for AdventHealth Hendersonville, in the release.
