Adi Shankar Wants The Devil May Cry Anime To Be The Best Show On Netflix

Devil May Cry new anime Dante

Adi Shankar, the creator behind the recent Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, announced back in 2018 that he was working on a new Devil May Cry anime series. It was re-revealed in September, with a very short teaser that left some fans wondering just how far along the series was and what was taking so long.

The answer, according to Shankar, is the aim for perfection. In a new video posted by Netflix, Shankar spoke about the work he’s been doing on the series, and why it’s been five years since he last talked about it. After assuring fans that he hasn’t given up on it, Shankar went on to explain he’s been working on it every day for five years.

“Since I announced the show in 2018, I’ve been hearing you guys,” Shankar says in the video, “Adi, what’s taking so long? Did you lose interest in Devil May Cry? Do you not think Dante’s cool anymore? So let me set the record straight.

“My development partner, Alex Larsen, and I, we’ve been working on this show every day since 2018. Our goal wasn’t just to pump out another animated show. My goal is to make one of the best shows on the Netflix platform. Period.”

Shankar went on to praise Studio Mir, the animation studio that’s been working on it and previously worked on series like Avatar: The Last Airbender, calling it one of the best animation studios in the world.

“It’s cool… when you work with amazing collaborators, like Alex Larsen, like Studio Mir, like Netflix,” Shankar continued, “who have been pioneers in this adult animation streaming space. So rest assured, we’re working very hard, because we love the franchise and want to deliver something great that stands the test of time.”
