Adam Sandler is a lizard in new Netflix trailerNetflix

Netflix has released the trailer for Leo, a new animated comedy starring Adam Sandler.

The film features the actor as the titular lizard, doing a sort of gravelly take on Peter Griffin's voice. Leo is a class pet who is bored beyond belief of dealing with fifth-graders, but his outlook on life changes when he realises that, at 74 years old, he only has a year left to live.

He plans to escape from the classroom and explore the world, but things get messy thanks to the actions of an incredibly mean substitute teacher and some anxious students.

The trailer gives us a look at some of his outdoor escapades, while long-term Sandler fans might clock a reference to Happy Madison at the end.

The film also features Saturday Night Live and Schmigadoon!'s Cecily Strong, Everything Everywhere All at Once's Stephanie Hsu, The Marvelous Mrs Maisel's Jason Alexander, regular Sandler collaborator Rob Schneider, Blue Bloods' Nicholas Turturro, Sandler's wife Jackie and daughter Sunny, and The Mandalorian's Bill Burr, who we see in the trailer as the turtle.

Sandler has had multiple films released on the streaming platform due to his continually-extended and extremely lucrative deal with Netflix, the latest being the comedy You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, which will drop at the end of this week (Friday, August 25).

The film, which also stars Jackie and Sunny, as well as his other daughter Sadie, is about a friendship that gets tested when the protagonist sees her best friend kissing her crush.

Ahead of its release, some reviews have dropped online and they've actually been pretty positive, landing a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, although that might change once more reviews are posted.

Leo is set to release on Netflix globally on November 21, 2023.
