An Acura Integra Type S Is Officially on the Way With Civic Type R Power
When Acura brought back the Integra, enthusiasts were happy but unsatisfied. The base car is good, and true to the Integra's roots as an everyday enthusiast car, but the one performance car lovers dream about is the legendary last-gen Integra Type R. That name may not be returning, but Acura announced Monday that it is introducing a new Integra Type S model. If the specs are any indication, it'll have Civic Type R power.
Officially, the only details are that it'll have a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder VTEC engine making over 300 hp mated to a six-speed manual sending power through a limited-slip differential. Honda's only got one engine that fits these criteria, and it's the riotous motor in the 2023 Civic Type R.
Though that car is designed to be the epitome of Honda on-track performance, Acura says the Integra Type S will be the ultimate on-road enthusiast vehicle. The transmission and diff setup are also identical to the Civic Type R, a bit of parts sharing that shouldn't disappoint. That gearbox is among the best in any production car.
The final production-ready design of the Type S hasn't been locked down, but the camouflaged prototype Acura has shown off looks more restrained than the outlandish Civic Type R. There are still hints of its hidden power, though, as a reworked front bumper, center-exit exhausts, an aggressive diffuser, and unique wheels wrapped in Michelin high-performance summer tires suggest an interest in speed. The interior, though not shown in pictures, appeared largely unchanged from the standard Integra when Road & Track saw the prototype in person.
