Actress Angie Harmon shared unexpected and devastating news on her Instagram account on Monday, April 1st about her dog Ollie. She posted several pictures and videos of the sweet boy, and in her caption explained that he was shot and killed by an Instacart driver over Easter weekend at her Charlotte, North Carolina home.

Harmon said that the Instacart driver got out of his car, delivered their food, and then shot Ollie, a German Shepherd/Beagle mix. She ends with, "We are completely traumatized & beyond devastated at the loss of our beloved boy & family member." Harmon also said that the police did not charge the man with any criminal acts because he claimed he acted in self-defense.

Fans and colleagues of Angie Harmon left more than 9 thousand comments about this event, many of them in disbelief about the loss that the family had suffered. Actress and friend Debra Messing left the following comment, "Oh my G Angie! That is so devastating and horrific and traumatizing. I can’t fathom anyone being that sick and callous to kill a family dog for no reason! My heart breaks for all of you and for sweet Ollie. Fly with the angels, pup. And curse that monster."

People Are Outraged Over the Senseless Killing

Commenters were shocked to learn that the man was able to deliver the food and then got away with killing the dog, and they are demanding justice. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said this about the ordeal, "The driver told officers that a dog attacked him while he was at the residence and that he defended himself by firing a single gunshot, striking and mortally wounding the dog. Another dog was present at the residence but did not attack," they went on to say, "No criminal charges have been filed in relation to this incident, and CMPD is not currently seeking any additional parties.”

A representative for Instacart told People magazine, "We have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account was immediately suspended from our platform. We have been in direct contact with the customer and are cooperating with law enforcement on their investigation."

Will Lawsuits Be Filed?

Queen City News Chief Legal Analyst Khalif Rhodes explained that while there may not be any criminal charges filed, it doesn't mean that the Instacart driver will get off scot-free. "The family could sue him and the delivery service. Because now you’ve had this loss of life for our dog, and you’ll have a number of things that they’ll be able to point to, specifically the emotional trauma that’s connected with that.”

Will Harmon sue? I sure hope so. She said that her family is "traumatized beyond measure" over the loss of their pet which is completely understandable given the situation. I send my condolences to the family, and hope that they receive some kind of justice over the senseless killing.
