Actors at Palm Beach church practice to reenact Last Supper

Men and Friends of the Congregation at the Royal Poinciana Chapel practiced on Wednesday to reenact the Last Supper as painted by Leonardo da Vinci a day before the chapel's Maundy Thursday program ahead of Good Friday and Easter.

The Last Supper was the final meal Jesus had with his apostles before he was crucified by the Romans. It provides the basis for what is known as the Eucharist, or Holy Communion, for Christians. Jesus takes bread, breaks it and gives it to those present, saying, "This is my body given to you."

As he prepares them for his departure, Jesus tells the apostles that one of them will betray him. Peter was to deny he knew Jesus three times. Judas also was present at the Last Supper.

The church's Thursday program also was scheduled to include harp and chorale soloists and as well as communion.
