Actor Ansel Elgort denies sexually assaulting teenage girl, apologizes for ghosting her

Ansel Elgort, who stars in the upcoming “West Side Story” movie revival, has denied an allegation that he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

The Manhattan-born actor, now 26, claims the encounter was legal and consensual — but he apologized for ghosting the young woman after their brief relationship in 2014, saying he’s “disgusted” at his behavior at the time.

The accuser posted the shocking allegations on social media Friday, claiming Elgort was 20 when he assaulted her in New York just days after her 17th birthday.

The woman, who used the Twitter handle @ItsGabby, said she had sent the actor a direct message on Snapchat and was surprised to get a response.

“I didn’t think he’d ever see my dm I was just a kid and was a fan of him,” she wrote in a since-deleted post.

“So when it happened instead of asking me if I wanted to stop having sex knowing it was my first time and I was sobbing in pain and didn’t want to do it the only words that came out of his mouth were ‘we need to break you in.’”

The accuser claims she was not “in that moment mentally” and was “in shock” that he wouldn’t let her leave.

“He made me think that this is how sex is supposed to be,” she wrote. “I WAS SO YOUNG AND HE KNEW THAT.”

Elgort, who earned a best actor Golden Globe nomination for his role in the 2017 movie “Baby Driver,” acknowledged having a relationship with the young woman, but he brushed off her accusations of wrongdoing.

“I cannot claim to understand Gabby’s feelings but her description of events is simply not what happened,” he wrote in an Instagram post Saturday. “I have never and would never assault anyone.

“Unfortunately, I did not handle the breakup well,” he added. “I stopped responding to her, which is an immature and cruel thing to do to someone. I know this belated apology does not absolve me of my unacceptable behavior when I disappeared.”

The woman has not publicly responded to Elgort’s statement and her tweet was deleted shortly after it went viral Friday. She had also shared a photo that apparently depicted Elgort and herself, though her face was partially covered by her hand, according to Variety.

Her post stated that she decided to come forward so she could “finally heal” and in case other girls have had similar experiences with the actor.

Elgort is also known for his roles in the 2014 romantic drama “The Fault in Our Stars,” in the “Divergent” series and the 2019 movie “The Goldfinch.”

He is the son of famed fashion photographer Arthur Elgort and stage director Grethe Barrett Holby.
