'The Act' Star Joey King Is 'So Happy' Gypsy Rose Blanchard Got Her Life Back After Prison (Exclusive)

Joey King has nothing but smiles for Gypsy Rose Blanchard.

The actress, who famously portrayed the former inmate in the hit 2019 Hulu series, The Act, told ET's Denny Directo what she hopes Blanchard does next now that she's out of prison.

"Whatever she wants," King said at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. "Gypsy is free -- she can do whatever she wants." Since Blanchard -- who served seven years behind bars after pleading guilty in 2016 to second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard -- was released from prison in December 2023, she appears to have settled into her newfound life with husband Ryan Anderson and their puppy, Pixie. Blanchard, who suffered Munchausen by proxy at the hands of her late mom, married Anderson in a prison ceremony while she was still serving time in June 2022.

"I'm excited for her and her journey and whatever that looks like for her," King said, while rocking a beauty look done by celebrity makeup artist Allan Avendano with Dior Makeup products and Calzedonia tights . "I'm happy for her. I’m really happy for her."

While fans may be crossing their fingers for a meet-up between the newly free Blanchard and her TV counterpart, that remains to be seen. "We have not had a chance to meet up," King told ET. As she noted of the Louisiana-based Blanchard, "We are on different parts of the United States."

"Maybe one day we will," King added, "but for now I’m just so happy that she’s able to kind of have her life back."

Meanwhile, King, who also recently tied the knot with The Act director Steven Piet in September 2023, is next set to star in another highly anticipated miniseries, We Were the Lucky Ones, an adaptation of the Georgia Hunter book by the same name about a Polish Jewish family torn apart during World War II. The series, set to premiere on March 28, has Ben Affleck and Matt Damon among its executive producers.

"Being able to explore a role that touches on my own ancestry," she previously said on a Television Critics Association panel, "it’s very personal."
