JOHNSTOWN – She loves being part of the school family.

"As a kid, I was talkative, outgoing, friendly, independent and strong willed," Amy Fauble said. "I love to talk and chat with others to hear their stories and learn from them."

"I always wanted to be a teacher," she said. "One of my favorite things as a kid was to play school with my older sister and friends. I remember we had this big black chalkboard, and it was so fun to write our lesson plans and spelling words on it. I remember I wanted to be the teacher more than the student. I even remember in elementary school being able to write on the classroom chalkboard and always thought it was so fun to do."

Today, Fauble is the secretary at Johnstown Intermediate School, which includes the district's fourth- and fifth-grade classes.

"As school secretary," she said, "I’m responsible for helping to make sure the school runs smoothly day to day. This includes taking care of administrative details, handling school communication, maintaining attendance for our building. I also answer the phone and communicate with students, staff, community members and other district employees. This year I also took on an additional position as an assistant coach to middle school (seventh grade) softball. This is another great opportunity to get involved with the school and work with the kids."

Fauble grew up in Coshocton, graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1997, then earned a degree in communications from Capital University in 2001.

"I first became involved with the schools as a parent volunteer for my oldest child," she said. "I worked one-on-one with kids, helping them with math. This led to an opportunity to be a paraprofessional, where I would work with small groups of students, helping them with their reading and sight words. This role also had an opportunity for me to be the substitute secretary, whenever the regular secretary was out. It didn’t take long for me to realize being a school secretary full time is what I wanted. I liked the fast pace of the school office environment and being the first contact at the school."

Philip Wagner is superintendent of the Johnstown-Monroe School District.

"Amy has many responsibilities," Wagner said, "from helping students with daily attendance, to supporting the principal and teachers and overall helps to keep everything organized and running smoothly at Johnstown Intermediate School. She even finds a few minutes to give a needed hug to a student, guide them to the clinic or celebrate when they’ve lost another tooth. We appreciate Amy as part of our professional Johnstown family and especially her dedication to the students, parents and staff."

Jennifer Cartwright, a fourth-grade language arts and social studies teacher at Johnstown Intermediate, agreed.

"Mrs. Fauble is a multitasker extraordinaire," Cartwright said. "Her tender concern for students helps to make Johnstown Intermediate a special place. She is a very special part of a wonderful school."

"I absolutely love what I do," Fauble said. "One of my favorite things about being a school secretary is getting to interact with so many people, from parents, students, staff (I work with the best), and other community members. I enjoy building those relationships."

"I believe I was put in this building for a reason,” she said. “Things just fell into place when JIS opened, and being the school secretary is the perfect fit for me. Johnstown-Monroe Local Schools is a special place, and I’m happy to be a part of the Johnstown family."
