Academy Awards 2024: Nominations with Wisconsin connections include Mark Ruffalo, 'Golda'

Mark Ruffalo received an Academy Award nomination Tuesday for best supporting actor for his performance in the surreal-ish comedy "Poor Things."

The Oscar nomination was the Kenosha native's fourth, all for best supporting actor; he has yet to win. He also was nominated for his performances in "The Kids Are All Right" (2010), "Foxcatcher" (2014) and "Spotlight" (2015).

Ruffalo's Oscar nomination wasn't the only one for a movie with Wisconsin connections Tuesday.

"Golda," which follows Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir during the tumultuous 1973 Yom Kippur War, collected a nomination for best makeup and hairstyling. Meir spent her formative years in Milwaukee before moving to Israel in the 1920s.

"Oppenheimer" led the field with 13 Oscar nominations, while "Poor Things" collected 11 and "Killers of the Flower Moon" racked up 10. "Barbie" had eight nominations, but was skipped over for best director (Greta Gerwig) and best actress (Margot Robbie).
