Paws of War, out of Nesconset, NY, has been providing veterans, active military members, and first responders services that enrich their lives through the rescue and training of service dogs since 2014. The work they do is just amazing and they recently introduced a therapy dog named Blaze as the newest employee of Dover Air Force Base’s Air Force Mortuary Affairs Operations (AFMAO) unit in Delaware.

This wonderful dog had such a horrific start to life but thanks to Paws of War he is now providing comfort to those that need it most.

Fox News reports that when Blaze was first rescued in 2022 the two-year-old Standard Poodle came from an illegal breeding operation where he first had to undergo several months of therapy and rehabilitation with Paws of War to heal from his injuries.

Blaze now serves alongside his owner, United States Air Force Chaplain Captain William Kilgore.

Blaze now works with Dover’s AFMAO unit which oversees the transfer of fallen soldiers and welcomes those service members’ families to partake in dignified transfers. The article explains that "Blaze’s day-to-day routine consists of attending meetings and interacting with base personnel and visitors. Yet his biggest responsibility is welcoming the families of fallen service members."

Blaze stands by the service people during a transfer of a flag-covered casket, and "Since he's joined us, every single family here for a dignified transfer has requested time with Blaze."

Therapy dogs can provide so much comfort and support to those who need it most, and it's so wonderful that this dog came from the very worst start in life to giving the families who need and deserve so much respect and care all the love and support they need.
