Abilene orthodontist arrested on sexual assault charge

An Abilene orthodontist was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual assault in connection with allegations from 2016.

Dr. Victor Lee of Lee Orthodontics was free Thursday from Taylor County Jail on a $25,000 bond, according to online jail records.

The second degree felony is punishable with up to 20 years in prison.

A press release from Sellers Law Firm of Fort Worth was sent out on behalf of Lee and Lee Orthodontics Tuesday evening.

"Lee Orthodontics learned today of Dr. Lee’s arrest on a fake charge," Lee's attorneys said in the media release.

The accusation has already been litigated, and Lee was cleared, according to the law firm.

"We are confident the same will happen here—if it gets there," Lee's attorneys said. "Despite continued abuses of power by the Taylor County District Attorney’s Office and disgruntled ex-girlfriend, Lee Orthodontics continues to provide the quality care it has for the past 17 years serving the Big Country."

Anyone charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

The victim in the sexual assault case previously reported the allegations to Abilene police in June 2017, according to Taylor County court records. However, after the plaintiff indicated she no longer wanted to pursue charges, the case was dropped.

Lee has previously been booked into the Taylor County Jail four times since 2017 on other felony and misdemeanor offenses.

Four misdemeanor charges from 2017 were dismissed, including assault family violence, criminal trespassing, interference with an emergency call and criminal mischief, according to court documents.

In August 2018, Lee was charged with a misdemeanor for a threat to publish intimate visual materials and a third-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance by fraud.

Lee pled no contest to the misdemeanor and was sentenced to 12 months of probation, court records show.

A Taylor County jury found Lee not guilty of a charge of possession of a controlled substance by fraud in June 2022, according to a previous Reporter-News story.
