Abilene, Big Country top performers in third round of high school football playoffs
Through three rounds of the state high school football playoffs, and plenty of teams from the Abilene area remain alive for a state championship in Arlington.
Here's a look at the best performances from Big Country teams during Week 3 of the postseason after Thanksgiving.
Dylan Slack, Abilene High
Slack completed 18 of 21 passes for 177 yards and two TDs in the Eagles’ 27-16 victory over Justin Northwest in a Region I-5A Division I semifinal game Friday in Wichita Falls.
Chad Lara, Abilene High
Lara ran for 134 yards and a TD on 19 carries. He also had two catches for 18 yards in the Eagles’ win.
Tre Sharp, Abilene High
Sharp had two interceptions and three tackles.
Beckham Paul, Abilene High
Paul had a team-high 12 tackles, including six solo. Bryce Neves and Caden Rainwater had nine tackles each, including six solo by Neves. Demontric Sanchez and Gotti Gomez each forced a fumble.

Adam Hill, Albany
Hill ran for 158 yards and a TD on 34 carries to lead the defending state champions past Muenster 19-14 in a Region I-2A Division II semifinal game Friday in Weatherford. He also had seven tackles, including five solo, and a sack on defense.
Cason Fairchild, Albany
Fairchild caught two passes for 44 yards and two TDs, and he also had six tackles (four solo) and two interceptions on defense.
Grayson Rigdon, Benjamin
Ridgon ran for 262 yards and five TDs on 20 carries, and he completed 10 of 11 passes for 221 yards and three TDs to lead the defending state champs past Jayton 85-40 in the Region II-1A Division II final Friday at Hermleigh.
Keegan Hayes, Benjamin
Hayes ran for 127 yards and four TDs on seven carries, and he caught six passes for 111 yards and a TD in the Mustangs’ win.
Ike Hall, Brownwood
Hall completed 5 of 9 passes for 86 yards and two TDs, and he also ran for 158 yards and two TDs on 19 carries in the Lions’ 37-17 victory over Springtown in a Region I-4A Division I semifinal game Friday at Crowley ISD Multi-Purpose Stadium in Fort Worth.
Zakk Zabecki, Brownwood
Zabecki returned an interception 90 yards for a TD in the Lions’ win.
Dai’Jon Booker, Clyde
Booker caught three passes for 126 yards and two TDs in the Bulldogs’ 75-21 loss to Brock in the Region I-3A Division I semifinal game Friday in Graham.
Keagan Ables, Hawley
Ables completed 13 of 21 passes for 232 yards and a TD, and he also ran for 76 yards and two TDs on 13 carries in the defending state champions’ 31-8 victory over Sonora in a Region I-2A Division I semifinal game Friday in San Angelo. He also had 11 tackles, including nine solo, and an interception on defense.
Diontay Ramon, Hawley
Ramon caught seven passes for 115 yards and a TD in the Bearcats’ win.
Bode Ham, Jayton
Ham ran for 251 yards and six TDs on 19 carries in the Jaybirds’ 85-40 loss to Benjamin in a Region II-1A Division II final Friday in Hermleigh.
Hudson Butchee, Stephenville
Butchee had 23 tackles, including 17 solo, and forced a fumble in the Yellowjackets’ 7-3 victory over Celina in a Region II-4A Division I semifinal game Friday in Mansfield.
