Abbott Elementary: Bette Midler Pitches Herself to Play [Spoiler]

The Abbott Elementary casting department’s job just got a lot easier.

In an X post on Sunday, showbiz veteran (and apparent Abbott fan) Bette Midler publicly lobbied for the role of Melissa’s (Lisa Ann Walter) mother, a character who has yet to appear on the ABC sitcom.

“Since I’m now using this website to pitch myself on TV shows, I would also like to play Melissa Schemmenti’s mother on Abbott Elementary,” Midler wrote. “If you see Quinta Brunson, please tell her.”

Brunson and Walter have yet to weigh in on Midler’s request.

Last month, Midler also pitched herself for another TV role for which she felt well-suited: a Real Housewife.

“Is it too late for me to become a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills?” Midler asked on X. “I’ve never watched it, but I am in the mood to talk some s—t. And to get paid for it? A dream!”

Real Housewives reunion staple Andy Cohen had replied to Midler’s request with an enthusiastic, “It’s time!” which prompted her to take the hypothetical even further: “I think my tagline should be, ‘Those Beaches don’t know what’s about to hit ‘em!!'”

Though Midler’s appearances on RHOBH and Abbott Elementary are just fantasy at the moment, her recent TV credits include Netflix’s The Politician, an episode of CBS’ Murphy Brown revival and Disney+’s Hocus Pocus 2, where she reprised the beloved role of witch Winifred Sanderson.
