After years of silence, Aaron Rodgers has finally revealed why he had a problem with New York Giants legend Phil Simms. It all stems from an interview back in 2015.

“There was a narrative used during Deflategate that I like footballs overinflated,” Rodgers said during his weekly appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. “And this came from a comment that Phil Simms said live on-air.”

In 2015, the Patriots were at the center of a huge NFL investigation. They were accused of deliberately deflating footballs prior to the AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts. This led to Simms asking how Rodgers wants the balls inflated before a game.

“This is what happened, we had a production meeting with CBS crew and Phil Simms said, ‘In the winter time, do you intentionally deflate the balls to get a better grip of the footballs?’ I was taken aback by the question and said ‘No. I can’t throw a flat ball. I don’t know what other guys like to do, but I can’t throw a flat ball. I got big hands and a strong grip pressure.’ I rather have a ball overinflated than under-inflated. I can’t throw a flat ball.”

Simms took Rodgers’ comments out of context and basically said on CBS that Rodgers likes to use overinflated footballs.

“He [Simms] goes on air and says I like the balls overinflated,” Rodgers said. “So, I’m grateful you asked me that because here we are years later where I can take down this ridiculous narrative that started with a bizarre question.”

Clearly, Rodgers wasn’t thrilled that Simms took those comments and ran with them.

Now that Rodgers has officially opened up about his beef with Simms, maybe he can make amends with him at some point down the road.
