For the past few months, it’s been reported that Aaron Rodgers doesn’t have a great relationship with Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. The reigning MVP confirmed in a recent press conference that most of his issues with the franchise stem from certain personnel decisions.

In an effort to fix their relationship before the start of the 2021 season, Gutekunst acquired veteran wide receiver Randall Cobb in a trade with the Houston Texans. Gutekunst admit that Rodgers’ request sparked that trade.

“Without Aaron, we probably wouldn’t be pursuing it,” Gutekunst told reporters. “Randall’s still a good player. … This is what Aaron wanted, that’s why we did it.”

So how is Gutekunst and Rodgers’ relationship roughly a week after the Cobb trade? Well, it sounds like it’s on the mend.

“I think it’s a work in progress for sure,” Rodgers said on Wednesday. “I think relationships aren’t formed in a matter of a couple days. There’s time where respect grows, and the communication follows.”

Rodgers’ future in Green Bay after 2021 is a bit unclear, but at least the two sides were able to compromise in time for this season.

The Packers will be considered Super Bowl contenders as long as Rodgers is under center. They’ll start the 2021 season on the road against the New Orleans Saints.
