99.9 The Fan has a new host for its afternoon sports radio drive-time show

Capitol Broadcasting Company Radio division has hired a new host for its 99.9 The Fan afternoon drive-time sports radio slot.

Tim Donnelly will join the station in mid-July, replacing “The OG: With Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio.” That show with Ovies and Giglio was canceled in late April and both hosts were let go. The two started a new show, “Ovies + Giglio” on the OG Live Podcasting Co. network, with shows available via podcast and on YouTube. Ovies and Giglio have partnered with The News & Observer to help share their content.

Donnelly’s show will air weekdays from 3-6 p.m.

Donnelly is a former quarterback at the University of Delaware and host of “The Tim Donnelly Show” on ESPN Radio 94.1 in the Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News, Virginia, radio market. He also fills in as a weekend host on the national CBS Sports Radio network, according to a news release from Capitol Broadcasting Radio.

“Tim’s coverage will give listeners a broad understanding of the sports that intersect here, and his expert analysis will pinpoint what’s at stake for fans, teams, and the Triangle,” said Brian Grube, General Manager of Capitol Broadcasting Radio, in a news release.

Donnelly said, via news release: “I am tremendously excited to join the Capitol Broadcasting Company family and the Triangle sports community. My family and I have connections to North Carolina and the local sports scene. I am thrilled for the opportunity to do what I love in a community that is such fertile ground for sports fans.”

Dennis Cox, a producer on “The OG” show who has been filling in from 3-6 p.m. with WRAL’s Chris Lea since that show was canceled, will also produce Donnelly’s show and have a presence on-air.

CBC says that Donnelly will also contribute web content and analysis on WRALSportsFan.com and for the Capitol Broadcasting Podcast Network.
