'9-1-1' Moves to ABC for Season 7: Everything To Know

Season 6 of 9-1-1 wrapped up on a characteristically stressful note for the characters fans have come to know and love, with the 118 emergency services team scrambling to respond to the collapse of a freeway overpass in downtown Los Angeles. Although the incident left several members of the core cast in mortal danger—most notably Peter Krause’s fire department captain, Bobby Nash, who spent much of the episode trapped inside a totaled truck—everybody ultimately made it out in one piece. And while the show will return for a seventh season, there are some major changes coming. Here’s what we know so far about Season 7 of 9-1-1.
Did 9-1-1 get cancelled?
9-1-1 has not been cancelled, but there’s a good reason why fans might have got that impression. Back in May 2023, Fox confirmed that Season 6 would be 9-1-1’s last—but it was simultaneously announced that the show would be moving to ABC for its seventh season.
In a statement quoted by Variety, the network said: “It has been an honor to be the founding network of 9-1-1 and we are grateful to Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, together with Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Ryan Guzman and the rest of the cast and crew, and 20th Television for delivering such an impactful series to Fox. We wish them well after 9-1-1’s final Fox season concludes.”
In his statement welcoming 9-1-1 to ABC, Disney Television president Craig Erwich called the show “one of the most defining and original dramas on network television”, concluding: “It’s a privilege to keep 9-1-1 in the family with 20th Television producing, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories about these beloved characters on our air.”
9-1-1’s spinoff series, 9-1-1: Lone Star, will remain at Fox for its fifth season, but those episodes aren’t expected to premiere until the fall of 2024.
What is 9-1-1 Season 7 about?
As yet, ABC hasn’t released an official synopsis for Season 7, so plot specifics are thin on the ground. The show will continue to focus on the action-packed work lives of a group of first responders in Los Angeles, telling episodic stories about the day-to-day emergencies they handle alongside more character-driven arcs.
Per TVLine, Season 7 will feature the much-anticipated wedding between Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who got engaged earlier in Season 7. Another thing we know for sure is that Season 7 will feature the 100th episode of 9-1-1 overall. That’ll be the season’s fourth episode, so it’s safe to expect something special that week.
Who's in the 9-1-1 Season 7 cast?
Angela Bassett as Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash

Bassett, who recently received an Oscar nomination for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is the lynchpin of the cast, and will return once again as Sergeant Athena Grant-Nash.

Peter Krause as Bobby Nash
Krause will reprise his leading role as fire department captain Bobby Nash, who started dating Athena early in the show’s run and married her during the second season.
Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie

Hewitt has been a part of the 9-1-1 cast since day one, and made an emotional return to the fold during Season 5 after taking a leave of absence for maternity leave. Her character, first responder Maddie Kendall, has been put through the ringer on screen, but will return for what’s shaping up to be a hopeful Season 7, with her wedding to Chimney now officially on the way.

Kenneth Choi as Howie 'Chimney' Han

Choi will return as firefighter Howie “Chimney” Han, who started dating Maddie late in Season 2. After everything the couple has been through both separately and together, and the trauma Maddie carries from a previous abusive relationship, taking this step is no small thing. “I think Chimney and Maddie are a little wary of pulling the trigger and making really big life decisions," Choi told EW. “They've gone through so many trials and tribulations throughout their relationship, and to play all of those kinds of conflicts, for an actor, it's such a joy."
Oliver Stark as Buck

Stark has played firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley throughout the show’s run, and survived an unforgettable near-death experience when he was struck by lightning during the most recent season. But Buck lived to (fire) fight another day, and will return for Season 7.
Aisha Hinds as Henrietta 'Hen' Wilson

Hinds is another member of the ensemble who’s been around since the start, and will return as firefighter Henrietta “Hen” Wilson for all of Season 7.
Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz

Corinne Massiah as May Grant

Massiah plays Angela’s daughter May Grant, who’s undergone a major evolution throughout the series. She was originally a recurring character in Season 1, but was brought back as a regular player for subsequent seasons, and is now a 911 operator working alongside her mother and the rest of the team. She’ll return as a series regular for Season 7.
What is the 9-1-1 Season 7 premiere date?
9-1-1 Season 7 will premiere on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
How many episodes are in 9-1-1 Season 7?
As yet, the episode count for season 7 hasn’t been confirmed. Most of the show’s previous seasons have been 18 episodes long, but given the impact of the writers' and actors' strikes on production, and the move over to ABC, it’s entirely possible that things will change.
Is there a 9-1-1 Season 7 trailer?
Filming on 9-1-1 Season 7 isn’t slated to begin until January of 2024, so as yet there’s no trailer available.
How to watch 9-1-1 Season 7
New episodes will air weekly on ABC, and will also be available to stream via the ABC website or ABC app. You can also access episodes live via platforms like Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV, and new episodes are likely to be released on Hulu the day after they air on ABC.
