Deadline has reported that the hugely popular series will return for an eighth season.

After airing on Fox for six seasons, ABC picked up the season 7 to sit alongside its schedule of Grey's Anatomy and Station 19. Season 7's premiere in March 2024 reportedly delivered an audience of 11.76 million viewers in total, within the first seven days,

The first episode saw Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) and her husband Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) in grave peril as their honeymoon cruise ship is boarded by terrorists.

As the season continued, so did the anguish, and the pair fought to survive gunshots, explosions and capsizing. Meanwhile, Hen Wilson (Aisha Hinds) did everything in her power to find Bobby and Athena.

9-1-1 star Oliver Stark recently teased tension on the show, amid Tommy Kinard's return. Last seen during season 2, Tommy made his return in episode three of season 7.

Stark, who plays Evan Buckley, revealed that Tommy will have learned from his previous mistakes at the station, when he returns to the show. He also addressed the ongoing tension between Buckley, Chimney, Eddie Diaz and Hen after their handling of an incident with a drunk driver.

He reassured fans that the negative energy wouldn't last but would be a significant issue within the season.

Another character that returned for season 7 is firefighter Ravi Panikkar, played by Anirudh Pisharody. Ravi left the show at the end of season 5 before appearing towards the end of season 6. The arrival of the fan favourite was confirmed by showrunner Tim Minear.

9-1-1 airs on ABC in the US, while 9-1-1: Lone Star airs on FOX. Both are available on Hulu in the US, and Disney+ in the UK.
