Season 5 of 9-1-1 aired its season finale back in the spring, and we're more than ready to see what happens next. Who knew we would find ourselves so entangled with the professional and personal lives of the members of a fictional station of the L.A. Fire Department and a 9-1-1 call center? Clearly Fox did, because they just keep making more and more episodes for us to enjoy.
Speaking of episodes, we've been wondering about the drama coming back with a new season. After all, the 9-1-1 season 5 finale left us with quite a few questions. Why are Buck (Oliver Stark) and Taylor (Megan West) splitting up? What's the status of Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Chimney's (Kenneth Choi) relationship now that she's returned to work? Will we ever see May and Albert on the show again?

When will 9-1-1 return with season 6?
Get all your fire gear ready, because season 6 of 9-1-1 will premiere on September 19, 2022 at 8 p.m. ET. Fox initially announced the renewal of 9-1-1 season 6 in mid-May, with the show posting a photo of the premiere date on Instagram the next month.
As for what we can expect from a brand new season, not many details are known at this point. But on social media, we've been getting behind-the-scenes looks here and there. Once we have more info, we'll update you ASAP!

Fox released an official preview in early September, and like previous installments, it looks like season 6 will be off to a unique start.
In the 30-second clip, fans get a taste of what's to come from the firefighters of the 118. Among some of the disasters the team must face is a blimp (helmed by Beverly Hills, 90210 actress and guest star Gabrielle Carteris) crashing into a crowded L.A. stadium, a victim being hurt in the woods, a bloody police chase and the potential to lose someone on their crew.
"Losing someone out there is never easy," Hen (Aisha Hinds) eerily utters before the screen flashes to Athena (Angela Bassett) screaming for Bobby (Peter Krause).
This is a lot to process, and it's just the beginning of what's bound to be a season with slight differences from years past. Showrunner Kristen Reidel explained to TVLine how season 6 will change the show's current formula, saying it's going to revert back to the approach fans were familiar with in the early seasons.
"We’ve moved away a bit from the giant, multi-episode disaster," she told the outlet. "Those are a little hard to find once you’ve done an earthquake and a tsunami."

This already looks so good. But what about learning more about specific characters, like Bobby and Athena's romance? As the couple got married in season 5, there's a very good chance viewers will get to see the honeymoon vacation the couple discussed in the finale.
"I mean, dinners don't go well on 9-1-1," Kristen told Entertainment Weekly in May. "Proposals don't go well on 9-1-1. So I would expect that yes, at some point next season, you will definitely see some portion of that vacation and it will be very 9-1-1."
But as TVLine reported in September, their honeymoon phase may be over quicker than expected. Kristen revealed to the outlet that while "Athena’s going to face a bit of a challenge in the early part of the season," she will have the support of her new husband to help her through it.
What's more, Kristen spilled that the first responders will have more happy moments this season.
"I think that the show works best when it's a balance, when there's some trauma but then there's also just some happy, funny, silly," she told the outlet. "I think that was a bit of an ingredient that maybe was missing this year. So yeah, just more crazy emergencies and just more of our people balancing the job in their lives. [I'm] looking forward to lots of fun and cool stuff for next year."
