As 9-1-1 embraces one of its most surprising emergencies yet, it turns out fans have one major cast member to thank for the idea.

As the hit ABC series welcomes The Bachelor star Joey Graziadei and host Jesse Palmer in a crossover episode on April 4 at 8 p.m. ET, viewers of the show are probably wondering how this unexpected collaboration came about. Well, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published on March 30, co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear dropped a bombshell about it. As it turns out, Jennifer Love Hewitt (who plays Maddie Buckley) was the one to pitch the idea to producers, as she adores all things Bachelor Nation.

"The whole crossover episode came about because Jennifer Love Hewitt called me after she went to one of the finales of The Bachelor," he told the outlet. "She's a huge fan of The Bachelor and she said, 'Wouldn't it be great if the 118 responded to a call at the Bachelor mansion?'"

But that's not all Tim had to say. He added that not only was he excited about the potential storyline, but when he presented the idea to the higher ups at ABC, they immediately got the folks at The Bachelor involved to figure out how they could bring the concept to the screen.

"I reached out to ABC and they reached out to the Bachelor people and we got onto a Zoom," he explained. "We just started talking about what the possibilities were. The Bachelor people were unbelievably supportive and helpful. They volunteered to show us the ropes about how they make the show, and then when we shot it. We actually brought in the Bachelor crew to shoot the first part of that case, so that it really was The Bachelor. And then we go into 9-1-1 world when they have to call 9-1-1. So that's how it came about. It just seemed like a great idea."

As for what fans can expect from the episode (titled "Buck Bothered and Bewildered"), the show's official Instagram account released a hilarious teaser clip of the moment Maddie receives the call in question. It turns out, the emergency involves a woman who got herself into quite a sticky situation after insisting on receiving a rose at the Bachelor mansion.

Elsewhere in the episode, per an ABC press release, Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) deals with a family member getting in trouble with the law and Evan "Buck" Buckley (Oliver Stark) finds himself jealous of Edmundo "Eddie" Díaz (Ryan Guzman) bonding with someone else.
