An 87-year-old bicyclist died in Dorrance Road traffic crash Wednesday

COLDWATER TWP. — Gordon Carl Sikorski, 87, of Coldwater, died Wednesday afternoon biking on Dorrance Road after he crossed in front of a vehicle and was struck.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department said the crash occurred at 12:20 p.m. near Fiske Road.

Crash investigators and witness statements determined the bicyclist rode his Trek road bike into the path of an eastbound 2008 GMC Acadia.

The driver, a 47-year-old Coldwater woman, could not avoid the bike. She was not injured.

Those present and Lifecare Ambulance attempted to save the man's life. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rider is a regular on the area roads, but no one knew his name and he carried no identification.

Deputies identified him on Wednesday evening. Officers waited to release his name so all the family could be notified.

The Coldwater Fire Department and the Branch County Victim Services Unit assisted.
