85-year-old pedestrian killed on Southern Artery: What we know about Quincy crash

QUINCY - On Wednesday morning, Jan. 3, a motor vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in front of the 1000 Southern Artery senior apartment complex, police said. The victim has not yet been identified by officials.

Quincy police said they received multiple 911 calls about 9:25 a.m. Officers, firefighters and paramedics arrived moments later and attended to the victim, an 85-year-old male from Quincy, according to a press release. The man was transported to South Shore hospital in Weymouth and pronounced dead at 12:33 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian, a 63-year-old male from Quincy, called 911 and remained on the scene, police said.

"This crash remains under investigation by the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office and the Quincy Police Collision Reconstruction Unit," the press release says. "Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact Quincy Police Department at 617-745-5824."

On Facebook, Police advised motorists to avoid the area of Southern Artery and South Street. South Street was closed from Southern Artery to Des Moines Road while the investigation was underway. The road was reopened later in the day.
