80 Section V hockey players to watch, what to know for this season

Sharpen those skates and tape those sticks, because Section V’s 2023-24 ice hockey season is underway.

Nineteen teams across two classifications take the ice this winter, led by some returning stars and plenty of newcomers around Rochester-area rinks.

Pittsford (Class A) and Webster Schroeder (Class B) are the defending Section V champions, but plenty of teams are in the mix to challenge for those respective crowns. There was also a minor shift among the section’s two divisions, as Victor and Batavia Notre Dame drop to Class B after competing in Class A in 2022-23.

Here is the Section V hockey divisional breakdown:

Class A (10 teams): Spartan Hockey (Gates Chili, Rush-Henrietta, Wayne), WFL Panthers, Greece Storm, Pittsford, Fairport, Portside Royals, Brighton/HF-L, Penfield, Hilton, McQuaid.

Class B (9 teams): Victor, Webster Schroeder, Webster Thomas, Batavia Notre Dame United, Irondequoit, Canandaigua, Churchville-Chili, Geneseo/Avon/Livonia, Aquinas.

Section V hockey dates to know

• Final day for regular season play: Friday, Feb. 10.

• Sectional seeding meeting: Saturday, Feb. 11.

• Sectional play begins: Monday, Feb. 13.

• Sectional championship games: Sunday, Feb. 26 at RIT.

• NYSPHSAA regionals: Thursday, March 2.

• NYSPHSAA semifinals and final: Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10 at the HarborCenter in Buffalo.
