A man has died after being pulled into a retention pond by an alligator Friday in a Myrtle Beach area neighborhood, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Michael Burstein, 75, drowned during the attack, Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said. He was recovered from the pond by Horry County Fire Rescue.

Reports of the incident at the Myrtle Beach Golf and Yacht Club surfaced midday Friday.

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officials determined the alligator should be euthanized on site, police said.

The state department and the Horry County Police Department are investigating the incident.
