73-year-old man drowns in pond at Pickaway County home while mowing grass, detectives say

The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office is investigating the drowning death of a 73-year-old man found Friday afternoon in a pond at a home in Wayne Township, about halfway between Williamsport and Circleville.

At 3:18 p.m. Friday, Pickaway County Communications Center 911 dispatch received a call from an Amazon delivery driver who said there was a human body floating in a pond at the residence on the 23500 block of Smith Hulse Road, located north of U.S. 22.

Emergency responders found and removed the body of a male, later identified as 73-year-old Louis Menduni Jr., from the pond. Menduni was pronounced dead at the scene by Williamsport medics.

Sheriff's deputies believe Mendun was mowing the grass around the pond and somehow fell into the water. Scioto Valley Wrecker Service, a Circleville-based towing company, pulled a mower out of the pond.

Menduni's body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, where an autopsy will be conducted.
