68-year-old using walker is dragged by car for about a mile and dies, Texas police say
A pedestrian died following a hit-and-run crash, according to Texas authorities.
The 68-year-old man using a walker was in a crosswalk, attempting to cross a road in Houston just after 5 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, the Houston Police Department said in a news release.
A vehicle traveling east struck the man, police said.
The car dragged the pedestrian about a mile and then continued driving without stopping to check on him, officers at the scene told Fox 26, ABC 13, and KHOU.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. A search is ongoing for the hit-and-run driver.
Police shut down the eastbound lanes of Westheimer Road for half a mile, according to a tweet. ABC 13 reported that the victim’s body was found throughout this area.
Officers told Fox 26 they believe speed was a factor due to the pedestrian’s “catastrophic injuries.”
