62,000 toy guns recalled because some started smoking and others caught on fire

The Gel Blaster Surge 1.0 Toy Guns don’t shoot real bullets, but they might ignite into real flames, which is why the company recalled about 62,700 of them.

The exact problem, as told in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice Thursday: “The lithium-ion battery pack inside the handle can overheat and ignite, posing a fire hazard.”

And this isn’t an idle concern, as the notice says Gel Blaster knows of “30 reports of smoking or fire near the handle of the gel blaster where the lithium-ion battery is located.”
