6-year-old girl shot and killed after fight at car club meet in San Antonio

A 6-year-old girl was shot and killed in San Antonio over the weekend following a dispute at a car club meetup.

According to police, following an altercation, around 11p.m. on Sunday, someone shot into the car the girl was in. She was hit sitting in her car seat when she was shot. Another bullet grazed the girl’s mother’s back. The vehicle they were in was driving away from the area when the shots were fired, according to KSAT.

The child was taken to a San Antonio hospital where she died from her injuries, police said.

She was later identified as Saryah Perez, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“This is just a very unfortunate event,” police spokesman Cory Schuler said. “We’re going to do our best to bring whoever is responsible to justice.”

San Antonio has a bustling car club culture, with many types of vehicles, such as lowriders, hot rods and others all having devoted fans.

San Antonio police said so far no arrests have been made and did not know what led to the shooting. Police said a a man in his 20s or 30s could be a person of interest.
