With $6,000 suite, this new luxury hotel in Fort Worth will rank among city’s poshest

A new luxury boutique hotel opening this fall in Fort Worth — with a signature suite that could set you back $6,000 a night — will vie for the title of Cowtown’s most expensive.

The four-story, 106-room Bowie House in the Cultural District began accepting reservations Monday morning with the launch of its online booking engine. Guests are expected to start checking in Dec. 1.

The hotel at 3700 Camp Bowie Blvd. is part of the Auberge Resorts Collection, which operates 26 luxury resorts and 89 restaurants across the U.S. and select destinations in Europe and Central America.

The Fort Worth property will be part of an exclusive portfolio that includes addresses in Napa Valley, Aspen, Park City, Los Cabos, Greece and France. It is the company’s second Texas property, after Commodore Perry Estate in Austin.

Bowie House’s rooms include 88 studio options, 12 lofts and six suites, several including balconies. Hotel rooms also feature bar carts, hat racks and boot benches, customizable boot shines and bath rituals, with decor that combines modern elements with a pull on Fort Worth’s classic Western heritage. The property has a pool terrace, nature courtyard, game room, library, meeting space, spa and three drinking and dining options.

The hotel’s signature offering, the Goodnight Suite, features a 10-person dining room and three bedrooms.

The company says room rates start just over $600 a night, which would place Bowie House near the top of a short list for Fort Worth luxury hotels that includes Hotel Drover Autograph Collection in the Stockyards. Some popular travel sites last week listed Bowie House rooms in December as starting at twice that amount.

The Goodnight Suite was listing on the hotel’s website as $6,099 to stay Dec. 1, though the company is offering a limited discount promotion.

For years, Fort Worth’s Cultural District has been more of a daytime destination with its world-class museums rather than a quarter where well-heeled visitors would make their home base.

The Hotel Dryce by entrepreneur Jonathan Morris near Dickie’s Arena was the first modern boutique concept close the district, opening in 2021 off Montgomery Street. Coming this September, businessman John Goff will open the 200-room luxury hotel The Crescent along Camp Bowie near West Seventh Street, which will feature a Canyon Ranch Wellness Club. The Crescent’s posted rates for September dates have appeared as $380 to $540 per night, including access to Canyon Ranch.

The December launch of Bowie House, along with other nearby developments in the pipeline and the recent arrivals of some of the city’s most highly rated modern restaurants, suggests the Cultural District is becoming a posh competitor to downtown’s gilded legacy hotels and dining.

The Bowie House development, on a former site of a church and the longtime beer bar Ginger Man, wasn’t without controversy when it went before city leaders in 2020. Some residents of surrounding neighborhoods worried about traffic and the project’s scale so close to residences. The project owner and developer, Jo Ellard, met multiple times with residents.

“When you see this building you want to see that it belongs in Fort Worth, but you also want to see there’s something different and there’s a bit of transition here,” Ellard said in October 2020. “Because Fort Worth is transitioning as a city.”

Fort Worth-based architecture firm BOKA Powell led the hotel’s design, which marketing materials describe as a “masterful union of time-honored and contemporary design, combining brick and cast stone harking back to the days of cowboys with gravity-defying glass features, a verdant pool terrace and convivial gathering spaces.”

Bowie House’s signature restaurant, Bricks and Horses, will be a “contemporary chophouse specializing in dry-aged local beef that will soon be the social hub of Fort Worth,” the hotel says. The Bar at Bowie House will serve all-day bites and a variety of cocktails and whiskeys. Another on-site restaurant, Whinny’s, will include a light-bites menu of frozen drinks, salads and ice cream sandwiches.

The Billet Room is the name of the hotel’s game room, and the Mulberry Room is a library “venue for discovery, sipping bourbon as you read or engaging in deep conversation over drinks and snacks.”

The hotel spa, Ash, will have a steam room and sauna, nail studio, fitness center, boutique, relaxation lounge and five treatment rooms. Services available include apothecary, water dancing, infrared therapy, synergistic skin treatments, massages and fitness classes.

With more than 10,000 square feet of outdoor and indoor event space, Bowie House can host up to 400 guests at a time for corporate retreats, weddings and other events. Venues include a wedding reception ballroom and an arcade.

“It’s with great excitement that we’ll soon welcome guests to Bowie House and bring our unique style of approachable luxury to this already vibrant city,” Gaylord Lamy, general manager of Bowie House, said in a release. “Fort Worth is a culturally rich gem with some of the best parks, gardens, museums, restaurants and entertainment in Texas, and we are excited to help open up this city to global travelers while providing a new and exciting home base for our beloved community. ”
