5K “Rock the Run” race to close some North End streets, April 27

On Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. some streets in the North End of Hagerstown will close lanes to provide a safe route for 5K race participants.

The Hope Center at Hagerstown Rescue Mission will host a 5K “Rock the Run” race.

The race consists of a three-mile walk/run beginning and ending at Fairgrounds Park, 351 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown.

The route includes portions of Security Road, Pangborn Boulevard, View Street, Mealey Parkway, Potomac Avenue and North Avenue.

The following lanes will be closed:

  • Pangborn Boulevard — the street will be closed to northbound traffic between Security Road and View Street, and northbound traffic will be forced to detour around the closure. Southbound traffic will continue to flow on this section of street, but will be shifted into the northbound lane at the closure.

  • Security Road — the street will be closed to westbound traffic between Pangborn Boulevard and Cleveland Avenue, and westbound traffic will be forced to detour around the closure. Eastbound traffic will continue to flow on this section of street.

  • View Street, Mealey Parkway, Randolph Avenue and Locust Street — portions of each of these streets will temporarily be closed to all traffic while the runners make their way around the course.

  • Potomac Avenue and North Avenue — runners will use the parking lane on the east side of Potomac Avenue; southbound traffic will be forced to detour at Park Lane and will be directed to use Oak Hill Avenue to continue south. On North Avenue, cones will be used to create a lane for the runners in the street; traffic will continue to flow on North Avenue.

Officers from the Hagerstown Police Department and the Auxiliary Police will be stationed along the route to direct traffic.

Street closures will be lifted in sequence as the race participant’s move around the course.

Motorists approaching the closures will encounter cones, barricades and other traffic control devices.

Emergency vehicles will be able to pass through the closures during the race.
