  • Jennifer Garner just shared an impressive workout video montage to show how she prepared for her role as Elektra in Deadpool & Wolverine.

  • I was fit, but not @marvel fit. 🥷🏻👵🏼,” Garner explained.

  • The 52-year-old actress dabbled in various cardio workouts, strength training exercises, boxing, and more.

We love when Jennifer Garner shares glimpses into her fitness routine—and her latest workout video has us on the edge of our seats. The actress just shared a detailed look into the intense workout routine that helped her get “Marvel fit” and physically ready to reprise her role as Elektra in the new Deadpool & Wolverine movie.

Garner explained that she was on the set of The Adam Project when Ryan Reynolds and film director Shawn Levy proposed the idea of her character Elektra Natchios reappearing in Deadpool & Wolverine. “They gave each other this look they have that can communicate an idea, 20 pages of dialogue, nuclear codes—there is a crazy artistic kismet between those two,” she wrote in the caption of her Instagram video.

In the video, Garner seriously impressed viewers with her intense workouts. The variety of clips shows the actress performing box jumps, strength training exercises, plyometrics, boxing moves, as well as other cardio workouts (including rowing, running, and swimming). We broke a sweat just watching!

“Other than trying to convince my kids’ preschool buddies that I was secretly a ninja, I hadn’t picked up Elektra’s sais since 2004; I was fit, but not @marvel fit. 🥷🏻👵🏼,” Garner explained.

Garner continued: “As this impossible dream became reality, my bestie and OG stunt double @shaunaduggins and I amped up our training,” which included two workouts per day, boxing sessions three times per week, and “lots and lots” of Peloton workouts. “We had #SuperHeroSummer over here, twirling sais in the backyard and laughing at our sore old bodies.”

The inspirational montage ended by showing Garner fully transformed and in character as Elektra, wielding her sai sword and bowing before the camera.

“I didn’t know that Elektra and I needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did. They are gifted in many ways, but seeing and elevating people around them is at the top of the list. Shauna and I were in heaven on set with them, with my old pal @thehughjackman, @dafnekeen, @channingtatum, @realwesleysnipes,” Garner concluded. “Shooting the fight was so fun, being there all together—truly like a dream. I’m proud of my friends and grateful to be up there with them. Thank you doesn’t cut it, guys, but it’s a good placeholder until I figure out what does. ⚔️♥️”

Both fans and friends were understandably in awe of Garner’s hard work and dedication. “Amazing! You are an inspiration in all areas of your life 👏❤️!” one fan wrote. “Your strength and perseverance—it’s everything. Thank you for showing us that this doesn’t just happen but you train and you train hard! 🔥🔥,” another commented.

Her costar dedicated a shoutout to the actress. “She has a blackbelt in nice, but has inside her, an unblinking hurricane of vengeance™️,” Reynolds wrote of Garner. “She brings a completely different scope of skills to each movie but can’t hide one detail…I don’t care how talented someone is, you can’t hide humanity. She’s not only one of my favorite performers, she’s one of my favorite people. I love her and I will now and always, owe her one. Or five. What a baller. #ElektraForever

The action-comedy is in theaters now, so there’s still time to see Garner on-screen fighting alongside Reynolds, Blake Lively, Hugh Jackman, and more.
