50 Books All Kids Should Read

"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links."

You can never have too many books, especially ones to share with the kids in your life. But you might only have so much space (and money) to store them all! So you can stock your family bookshelf with the best of the best, Good Housekeeping curated this list of 50 best children's books of all time.

Some picks are beloved classics while others are newcomers that recently won a Good Housekeeping 2022 Kids' Book Award. The one thing they all have in common: Their characters, plots or rhymes may stick with your kids for a long time. After all, it's a huge win to find stories that not only open their eyes to the joy of reading, but also give them another perspective.

From a department-store bear with a missing button to a gorilla who wants to experience life outside a shopping mall cage, a boy destined to be a wizard to a hilarious pigeon who keeps asking to drive a bus, these beloved books will grab their hearts, transport them to faraway places and, most of all, help make them lifetime readers. Board books, picture books, chapter books, young-adult novels — and even a cookbook and experiment-filled science book — made the list.

And since kids are more likely to value reading if they see you doing it, check out the best adult books to read this month.
