5 things to do this weekend: Farmers Market, Brewery Tour, Opera, Anime Club and more

Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Nov. 10-12.

Each week, the Banner-Herald will publish a list of five options for things to do in the Athens area.

The West Broad Farmers Market

WHERE: West Broad Farmers Market and Garden (300 Rocksprings St.)

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: If you've never been to one of West Broad's weekly Saturday markets, you've got until Dec. 16 to come check out goods all of the local vendors at this SNAP/EBT eligible location. Thanks to the market's partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia, the "Fresh for Less" program will match each EBT dollar spent on fresh produce.

Athens Brewery Tour

WHERE: Multiple locations (see details)

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 11 and Sunday, Nov. 12 (admission prices vary)

DETAILS: Did you know that private tours of Athens breweries like Creature Comforts, Akademia, Terrapin and Southern Brewing Company are available for group bookings? Kids' Anime Club

WHERE: Athens-Clarke County Library (2025 Baxter St.)

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. (Free admission, all ages)

DETAILS: The ACC Public Library is a great place for folks of any age to meet, socialize and make new friends through its regular schedule of pop culture-centric events. The Anime Club will watch Japanese animation together (titles not specified but are family-friendly), sample Japanese snacks and create art together.

Mythos & Machinations: A Night of Fine Opera

WHERE: Hodgson Concert Hall at UGA Performing Arts Center (230 River Rd.)

WHEN: Friday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ($20 for adults, $3 for children and students)

DETAILS: Presented by the University of Georgia Opera Theatre, this program features opera and vocal performance students backed by the UGA Symphony Orchestra. Since the performance contains familiar favorites and lesser-known works, it's a perfect gateway into the world of opera for those who have never experienced it before.

Country Bar Crawl

WHERE: Silver Dollar (262 College Ave.)

WHEN: Friday, Nov. 10 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. ($15-20 admission)

DETAILS: Event begins at 6 p.m. at Silver Dollar with a 45-minute set from an as-yet unannounced country music band, then moves on to Bar South with a performance by Meyer Pavich followed by a set by Andrew Dixon at Clark's Collective before ending at General's to close out with Chad Baker.
