5 things to do this weekend in Boise: trick-or-treats, Malamutes, a jam-packed Jelly Roll

Outdoor concert season is over (brrr!), which means the number of entertainment events in the Treasure Valley has taken a slight hit.

Still, there are plenty of things to do in the Boise area.

Live music

If you’re hoping to see “Son of a Sinner” Jelly Roll perform at Stoney’s Road House in Emmett, you’re out of luck. The show Friday, Oct. 21, sold out in advance. (At least the normal tickets did. A limited number of $78.50 tickets were still available at press time.)

Here are several other live-music options at local bars and concert clubs.

Jeff Crosby: 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, Neurolux, 111 N. 11th St., Boise. $15. TicketWeb.

The Movement: 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, Knitting Factory, 416 S. 9th St., Boise. $20. Ticketmaster. Special guests: The Elovaters, Cydeways.

Brit Brigade: 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, Neurolux, 111 N. 11th St., Boise. $15. TicketWeb. $18 at the door.

Qwanqwa: 8 p.m. Oct. 22, The Olympic, 1009 W. Main St., Boise. $15. Eventbrite. $18 at the door. Opening: Tora’dan.

Black Lips: 8 p.m. Oct. 23, The Olympic, 1009 W. Main St., Boise. $20. TicketWeb. $22 day of show. Special guests: The Soft Palms.

Sip beer. Pet large dogs

If you still haven’t checked out Barbarian Brewing’s relocated Garden City brewery and taproom at 114 E. 32nd St., this weekend provides two fun opportunities.

Barbarian will host a birthday celebration on Saturday, Oct. 22. (It’s turning seven). There will be a local pop-up market with handcrafted goods from 1 to 6 p.m., food from Kismet Kitchen food truck (noon to 8 p.m.) and The Tony Cannoli food cart (3 to 6 p.m.), plus live music from Joseph Lyle (1 to 3 p.m.) and Tyler Abromeit (3 to 6 p.m.). Beer-sales proceeds will go to Moonsong Malamute Rescue, a nonprofit “assisting Alaskan Malamutes and Northern Breed dogs when in crisis throughout the Intermountain West.”

Speaking of Malamutes? From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, they’ll be wagging their tails on the patio. During Woos ‘n’ Brews, there will be raffle prizes and special pint glasses for sale — best with a pour of Thor’s Mane Golden Ale. (Thor, a rescued Malamute, is Barbarian’s official mascot. Beer proceeds from this event also go to Moonsong.) Kismet Kitchen will serve brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just remember, dog owners, if you bring your own Malamute — and please do — you’ll need to keep it on a leash.

Home, sweeter home

You live in Boise! You’d better make your house worth even more, right? Check out “over 150 beautiful displays” at the annual Boise Fall Home Show at Expo Idaho, 5610 N. Glenwood St. This year’s event will feature “updates and upgrades, professional tips, remodeling, landscaping, new products, expert advice, design ideas, great fun and so much more.” (It’s the “so much more” that seals this deck.) Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23. Admission is $5, seniors 62 and over pay $4, and kids 12 and younger are free.

Early Halloween

Dress up in that Halloween costume and get outside at Jack’s Urban Meeting Place (JUMP), 1000 W. Myrtle St. The JUMP Park will host a free, all-ages “wacky world of wonder” at JUMP or Treat from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. Festivities will include “larger-than-life inflatables, creative backdrops and awe-inspiring decorations.” Kids can go nuts exploring the JUMP Park — nabbing a few “treats and treasures along the way.”

Do lunch in Eagle

When Buster’s Sports Bar & Grill closed early this year after a run of more than two decades, it left a gap in the Eagle community. But the building at 1396 E. State St. has a new tenant: Holy Cow Idaho. The local hamburger purveyor is open for lunch Friday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (It’s closed the rest of the weekend.) Can’t make it? Hours expand to 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, through Saturday, Oct. 29. Then in November, they’ll go to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Just be warned: Holy Cow isn’t serving beer and wine yet. This is a soft opening; alcohol is coming soon.

With a new look, the longtime Buster’s restaurant is reopening as Holy Cow Idaho.
