5 things to do this weekend in Boise: Party like a Basque, chill at mountain music fests

Cooling off this weekend will be a priority.

Obvious choices include escaping to Bogus Basin, frolicking at jam-packed Roaring Springs Waterpark in Meridian, or floating a possibly even more jam-packed Boise River.

But if you’re up for events — some air-conditioned, others brutally hot — there are plenty of highlights on the entertainment calendar.

Hit the fair in Caldwell

The Canyon County Fair continues now through Sunday at the Fairgrounds, 111 S. 22nd Ave., in Caldwell. The price is right: $6 general, $4 seniors and children 6-12, free for ages 5 and younger, in advance at canyoncountyfair.org. (Tickets are $2 more at the gate.) In addition to a carnival, livestock and all the other agricultural entertainment you’d expect to find, there are concerts. They start at 8 p.m. and are free with fair admission. (You can pay more for pit/reserved seating.) The shows are Jordan Davis and Matt Koziol on Friday, Flo Rida and DJ Kronik on Saturday, and Banda Renovacion and Zoilo Navarrete y Los Rebeldes de Durango on Sunday.

Party Basque-style

The San Inazio Festival rocks the Basque Block between Capitol Boulevard and 6th Street from Friday through Sunday downtown. It will be a party. Grove Street is closed off for dances Saturday and Sunday nights. Leku Ona restaurant said it best on its Facebook page: “Join us for a celebration you’ll never forget: Friday starting at 5 p.m. there will be Friends and Family Night at the Basque Center. On Saturday we’ll have Entertainment on the Basque Block, San Inazio Mass at St. Mark’s Church and Street Dance on the Basque Block. Wrapping up on Sunday there is the Euzkaldunak Members Picnic at Municipal Park and Street Dance on the Basque Block.” Details: basquecenter.com/san-inazio.

Do Shakespeare

Idaho Shakespeare Festival’s “Romeo and Juliet” closes this weekend — and, yes, there are tickets available. It’s at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday (6:30 p.m. mini-concert series) at the ISF Amphitheater, 5657 Warm Springs Ave., Boise. Tickets are $40-$56. Students pay $25 with valid ID. 208-336-9221.
